Currently when you run a search that includes organization name and total grant amount, you are unable to sort the results by the total grant amount column. This occurs both in the workspace and when trying to create a report. I am told that it is because the field "total grant amount" is a formula run on the back end. However, if you can run the Top 20 Organizations by Total Grant Amount report, this functionality should be possible on all organizations.
