In Classic, it is possible to select a series of records, open them all, and scroll through them - this is great when you're needing to review the same information on a series of records. It does not appear that this is possible in SKY, which means you have to go through the opening process for every single record. Bring back this functionality in SKY please!
We are working on a solution at this time to allow multiple records to be opened in 1 tab. This will include the ability to edit the record in this tab as described as needed functionality for this be be beneficial to users of BBGM. I will update when we get close to a release of this feature.
I hate that we lost this functionality in the migration. Please bring it back! It makes my life SO much easier when updating records.
We really need this function back! Used all the time!
This has been an ongoing problem with our team in SKY as well. I will be emailing our power users asking them to also vote for this Idea.
I desperately need this function to be restored and can't believe it isn't available in Sky.
I have just sat on some training and didnt realise how much we use this function currently with checking payments and bank details over a huge amount of records.... we are relatively large organisation and this is a crucial feature for us to have. Please reconsider your decision on removal of this - or replace it with another solution. To loose this will increase the work we have to do across these records. I think this is the most specific loss of a feature for our organisation.
Why has this feature been left out in the design of SKY?
Our entire team uses this feature as part of their daily tasks. It allows our users to update a group of records without having to navigate back to a View and pick another record. (Noting: Views that no longer break records into pages. - this feature is also missing from SKY!) Not being able to update records in a group method will impact on our Foundation’s efficiencies and pushout our grant program timelines. On average we receive between 160-230 applications per grant program round and have 10 weeks to assess. 2-5 grant program rounds can be in the assessment phase at one time. We run a minimum of 45 Grant Program Rounds per year. This is just a little picture of how a Foundation uses BBGM in Australia.
In response to Cassy Crabtree’s comment “Would this functionality still be useful if you could not edit any of the records? If you could open them and navigate through them without the ability to make changes?...” – No Cassy, it surely wouldn't. Having this function missing from SKY is very frustrating to all SKY users.
We were communicated that the new SKY View would allow users to “Work Faster and Smarter” & “Increase Speed and Efficiency”. By removing this KEY function users are no longer able to work Faster and Smarter, let alone Increase Speed and efficiencies.
The SKY Product Tour on the BB website states “…Blackbaud Grantmaking is helping Foundations all over the world achieve their mission by delivering capabilities that allow you to streamline workflows, improve collaboration and measure impact…..”
Our team are still heavily relying on BBGM Classic when they should be experiencing and building their knowledge, capabilities and confidence in SKY View. We were promised a transition period by BB.
SKY Developers please listen to your SKY users. Please put-back key functions such as this one back into BBGM before we lose access to BBGM Classic View.
I use this very frequently in classic view. It allows me to make individual updates to a group of records without needing to navigate to each record. Big time saver; not just about number of clicks. It's about the flow of work. Every time I have to close one thing and open another my flow is interrupted.
@ Cassy, it is most useful to be able to update. Some user may just like to view it, but updating makes more sense for us.
In response to Cassy: No, it's not useful to just be able to open multiple records. The functionality in Classic is to open multiple records AND edit them as you click through. That same functionality should exist as baseline in SKY.
The whole point of having multiple records open is because you want to do something with them, this may be to do a quick assessment for eligibility and you might need to indicate a pass/fail and/or possibly a score. There are many other scenarios as to why you would select multiple records to open and they almost always will involve making some sort of change to each record as you go thru them. We need to be able to modify the records and not just 'view' them as suggested.
In May, Pittsburgh gathered users of Blackbaud through our Grantmakers of Western PA group to talk with Vin St. John about the issues and problems we were having with Sky View. We completed a form listing our issues and Vin replied on the status of each of them. When I suggested that this was an issue and that I used this function all the time, Vin wrote back: We don’t have a plan for this currently. We have found that some customers use this extensively and some never used it at all. That suggests it was valuable but was not implemented in an ideal way. So, we’re going to take a look at this in the future and consider alternatives, but for now we do not have plans to deliver this feature exactly as it existed in classic view. (it is, of course, possible to click through multiple tabs open in the workspace, which you know, but which I’ll state here just for clarity).
This is a nice shortcut to be able to open every record in a query, whether is it just a quick view to see all is in order, or if I want to make changes. And I thought part of the goal of Sky View was to get to records/pages or make changes with less clicks than we do now in Classic. Having this "Open" function does just that. Hopefully if more people weigh in that this is an important function, they will reconsider.
No, it would not be useful if we couldn't edit the records. Usually for me the purpose is to copy data from one record to another, or to edit them all in the same way (which can't be done in a batch).
In almost all instances when using this feature in BBGM Classic, the purpose is to perform edits on each record. In organisations where different staff perform different tasks on each grant, this is core functionality.
In response to Cassy's comment, I don't think it would be as helpful if we weren't able to make changes to the records. I tend to go through and fill out the coding sheet and update the request date for all the requests when they come in after a deadline. I also use this functionality when reviewing documents and sometimes need to make changes to the document and replace them. I also batch update payments this way as well.
The main reason we want this functionality is so we can open multiple records and make changes without having to open every record individually. So many more clicks which SKY was supposed to alleviate.
No, not useful unless I can edit the records by going to Next and Previous, just like I do now in Classic. It's so frustrating for us users to have "lost" functionality in Sky. The goal should always be to at least maintain current efficient processes and make everything possible more efficient. Fewer clicks, fewer screens, fewer pop-ups, less scrolling.
Would this functionality still be useful if you could not edit any of the records? If you could open them and navigate through them without the ability to make changes?
I can't believe this isn't a basic function of SKY! I literally use this feature everyday in Classic and the fact that it isn't available in SKY is an error in efficiency. Please make this an option!! I don't know any Grants Manager that doesn't want to batch open records?!
I also use this function daily and wish it would be available in SKY
