Our clients/applicants are for-profit businesses – usually LLCs or C-corps. They will all be very confused by the language in this pop-up that speaks specifically to non-profit organizations and registering with the NPOconnect database.
We are eager to explore some minor changes to this “Select Your Organization” pop-up that we think could help, for example:
Removing the search bar option
Removing the help text below the search bar “The Registration ID is the nonprofit’s official ID”
Removing the text in the middle of the pop-up, around “your organization may not be registered with NPOconnect” -- btw it is a very safe assumption that none of our clients will be registered with NPOconnect
Moving the “+ Add Organization” option closer to the top of the pop-up, and perhaps enlarging so it is far more visible – keeping in mind that every one of our first-time users will be required to add their organization
Revising the title of the pop-up to “Add / Select Your Organization”
Allowing some additional text guidance under the “Add / Select Your Organization” title line of the pop-up window.
Agree that this is confusing. After one round with the program accepting applications from organizations, I'm changing the program to accept applications from individuals, and just adding the registration fields and org type fields to my form so I get the info I need with less confusion!
I agree that the default language used when adding an organization should not refer to the organization as a nonprofit. While we do fund many nonprofits, we also fund universities, tribal entities, government organizations, etc. These organizations want to be sure they are adding their organizations correctly and it is confusing that they are seeing language that indicates they are adding a nonprofit organization. I suggest Blackbaud simply use the word "organization" rather than "nonprofit," since organization is a much broader term. I am not sure how this would affect funders that accept applications from individuals, so that could be another consideration.
